Ahead of its 2014 debut, the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe continues its testing trials on German soil. Based on the latest spy photos, a new rendering surfaces on the interwebs giving a realistic view of how the final design might turn out.

The F36 four-door is scheduled to come to market in 2014 and will follow the same design principles as the recently launched 6 Series Gran Coupe. Sources close to BMW point out that the the 4 Series Gran Coupe will be “a very sexy looking four-door coupe model which will bring the sleek sportiness, premium image and ambiance of the 6er Gran Coupe to the entry-level of the premium segment.” The 4er Gran Coupe sports shorter overhangs and inside cabin with a sleek roofline and narrow glasshouse.

As for the engine lineup, we expect to see a 428i and 435i Gran Coupe designations, an inheritance from the new 4 Series family. The 240 horsepower 2.0-liter turbo will power the 428i Gran Coupe and a 300-horsepower 3.0-liter turbo in the 435i model. Transmission choices should include a six-speed manual and optional eight-speed automatic. Rumormill churns out that an M4 Gran Coupe will also follow the “standard model.”

Another vehicle spotted on the roads recently is the next year’s debut 3 Series Gran Turismo. At a first glance, the two camouflaged vehicles can be mistaken for one another, but the front section and roofline are higher on the 3 Series GT. The 3 Series GT is also slightly longer, but with a shorter trunk lid.

The 4 Series Gran Coupe will compete against the Audi A5 Sportback and will be slotted between the 435i Coupe and the M4.
